A group of students and families protesting Governor Hochul's proposed budget outside her New York City office today. Organizers say they're concerned that public schools will remain underfunded in Hochul's current budget. They're calling on lawmakers to pass a spending plan that addresses the state's affordability crisis by increasing taxes on the ultra-wealthy and profitable corporations. They want that money to then be invested in the health and safety of children.
"While our public schools face significant financial cuts that could lead to bigger class sizes, canceled after-school activities, social workers and guidance and guidance counselors being laid off, and more," said Zakiyah Shaakir-Ansari, Co-Executive Director of Alliance for Quality Education.
