GOVERNOR HOCHUL SHOULD UPHOLD HER PARTY'S VALUES AND PRIORITIZE WORK OVER WEALTH

After an initial review of Governor Hochul’s campaign finance filings, Invest in Our New York’s Campaign Director, Carolyn Martinez-Class, released the following statement: 

“New Yorkers who want to understand the Governor’s policy decision-making don’t have to look very far. In the first half of 2024, the Governor raised over $5.9 million, primarily from big money, special interests donors. This is the status quo from Hochul, who once again refused to make the ultra-rich pay what they owe in taxes and instead slashed funding for our public schools and secured tax breaks for real estate magnates.

“It's evident that the Governor is more interested in protecting her campaign war chest than in addressing the needs of working-class and low-income New Yorkers. Thanks to Governor Hochul, billion-dollar corporate donors like KPMG, Ernst & Young, PwC, and the entities they represent can amass and hoard wealth while every enacted Hochul budget starves our communities of essential resources.

“As New York’s top Democrat and a Biden surrogate, Governor Hochul should uphold her party's values and prioritize work over wealth. She must reverse course, stop accepting hefty checks from millionaires and billionaires, and instead help build a more just New York, where the super-rich fulfill their tax obligations, and our communities receive the investments they deserve.”
