Governor Hochul Fails New Yorkers...Again

Earlier this evening, Governor Hochul announced a “general agreement” on the Fiscal Year 2026 budget. In response to the Governor’s remarks and the outlined agreement, Invest in Our New York Campaign Manager Carolyn Martinez-Class released the following statement:

“Governor Hochul has done it again - she delayed the budget, leveraging her outsized power during this process to push through her non-fiscal priorities, while failing to meet the moment. This FY26 budget “general agreement"  misses the mark when New Yorkers need bold action most.

“In the midst of an affordability crisis and with federal cuts on the horizon, lawmakers had an opportunity to protect vital programs like Medicaid and SNAP by raising new public dollars through tax increases on the ultra-rich. Instead, the Governor sided with her wealthy friends, leaving New Yorkers exposed, and even implementing a regressive tax on employees across the MTA region.

“This budget agreement fails to provide the sustainable investments necessary for housing, education, healthcare, and the whole social safety net that millions of New Yorkers rely on. We’re not surprised: failing New Yorkers has become Hochul's trademark.

“But we won't back down. When lawmakers return to Albany to address potential federal cuts, the Invest in Our New York campaign will keep fighting for a more just New York, where the super-rich pay their share and everyone can afford to call New York home.”
