"GOVERNOR HOCHUL SOLIDIFIED NEW YORK'S TOP SPOT AS THE MOST ECONOMICALLY UNEQUAL STATE IN THE COUNTRY" INVEST IN OUR NEW YORK CAMPAIGN RESPONDS TO FY 2024 BUDGET

ALBANY, NY In response to Governor Hochul’s FY2024 billionaire budget, Carolyn Martinez-Class, Campaign Manager for the Invest in Our New York Campaign released the following statement:

"We are disappointed that, despite the worst affordability crisis in two decades, Governor Hochul used this state budget to force the interests of her billionaire donors over delivering for working-class people. "This year was a critical opportunity to address growing inequality in New York. The budget could have generated billions of dollars in sorely needed new public funds by raising taxes on New York's wealthiest residents and corporations and investing those dollars directly into our communities – a move that poll after poll shows is widely popular with New York residents, regardless of political affiliation. Instead, Governor Hochul protected the interests of New York’s ultra-rich, leaving billions of dollars on the table, solidifying New York’s top spot as the most economically unequal state in the country. "As a result, this budget will result in increased suffering for millions of working-class New Yorkers. It will lead to the incarceration of more Black and brown people, more evictions, an increase in homelessness, the codification of poverty wages, and tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires. "The Senate and the Assembly must use the rest of the legislative session to meaningfully deliver for working-class people. We urge our state representatives to continue fighting for investments in New Yorkers' safety, health, and dignity before the close of session in June. Our communities depend on it."
