Statement: Essential Plan Coverage Losses

In response to the Essential Plan coverage losses, Invest in Our New York Campaign Manager Brahvan Ranga released the following statement:
Yesterday, nearly half a million New Yorkers lost their Essential Plan health insurance. This was caused by the federal cuts to healthcare through HR-1, the biggest transfer of wealth from the working class to the ultra-rich in American history. Trump and his cronies cut over a trillion dollars from basic services like healthcare, SNAP, and supportive housing that New Yorkers rely on, in order to give New York’s wealthiest residents a $12 billion tax cut every year. But the blame does not rest solely with the Republicans in Washington. This year, the Invest in Our New York coalition and our allies in local and state government called for taxing the ultra-rich and most profitable corporations, in part to preserve New Yorkers’ healthcare, but Governor Hochul refused to do so. This dereliction of duty will have catastrophic consequences for New Yorkers over the next few years - an additional half a million New Yorkers are set to lose their healthcare in January of next year. We call on our state leaders, particularly Governor Hochul, to pass the Invest in Our New York package to make sure no New Yorker loses their healthcare and our state stands up to Trump and his cronies in Washington not just with words, but with action.
